This beautiful vacation home is located in Marcilhac-sur-Célé in the heart of the Causses du Quercy region. Comfortable and well equipped, this typical stone house will charm you! The village is located on the banks of the river Célé and is dominated by imposing limestone cliffs, sculpted by the river over millennia. The square tower of the Benedictine Abbey of Saint Pierre century dominates the village and there are also the majestic ruins of a Roman church from the fifth century. The pilgrimage route to Santiago de Compostela passes through the village, and the hikes in the area are spectacular. In addition to hikes on the doorstep, you'll find kayak rentals 300 yards from the house. You can swim in the river and fish. The village also has a bakery, a butcher, a grocery store, a weekly outdoor market and restaurants. For other services you may need, Cajarc (12 km) is the nearest town. It is a lively and bustling center with a Saturday afternoon market, restaurants, cafes, a supermarket and festivals throughout the summer. Figeac (30 km) is a larger center with medieval history and an Egyptian museum honoring Champollion, who was born there. It also has an outdoor pool facility and a large market on Saturday mornings. The area has much to offer in terms of excursions. In Cuzals (12 km) is an open-air museum that describes life in alleys through the ages. The cave of Pech Merle (18km) is one of the few where you can still see original wall paintings. Cahors, which is 46 km away, is the center of the wine region with the same name.
